Our doctors can conduct assessments before employees are engaged in asbestos work, monitor employee respiratory health if involved in such work regularly or assess any impact from any inadvertent exposure to airborne asbestos material.
We recommend that pre-employment medicals be conducted prior to anemployee taking on any asbestos work to ensure pre-existing respiratory conditions are identified and base-line lung function testing (spirometry) is conducted. Base-line chest X-rays can be arranged, if indicated at the time of the assessment.
Routine health surveillance of asbestos workers includes a clinical assessment and lung function testing. Chest X-rays or more sophisticated lung imaging can be arranged if necessary.
Dr Sharman is accredited to conduct respiratory impairment assessments on behalf of the Tasmanian Government Asbestos Related Diseases Compensation Scheme.
