Dr Sharman is passionate about improving the workers’ compensation system. He is active as a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational & Environmental Medicine (AFOEM). He is a member of the AMA, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD), as well as being a member of the Tasmanian Association of Vocational Rehabilitation Providers and Asbestos Free Tasmania Foundation.

Dr Sharman has an interest in social media providing commentary and perspective on workers compensation issues through his blog ‘Insult and Injury’, Facebook, Twitter, and a new website about RSI/overuse disorders ‘The TIPS site’ .

During 2014 Dr Sharman coordinated the Tasmanian AMA’s Worker’s Compensation Reform Committee and convened a series of meeting with insurers to develop a joint submission to the new Liberal Government for substantial change to improve the operation of the workers compensation system in Tasmania.
