Fitness for Work Assessments – terms and conditions
Dr Sharman and Dr McArdle undertake Fitness for Work Assessments. Normally a 1-hour appointment is required to perform a comprehensive assessment. Additional time is involved by the doctor to compile or dictate a report. If additional in-house tests are required as a part of the assessment, such as alcohol & drug screens, audiometry or spirometry, no separate charge will be made. The costs will be reflected in the doctor’s additional time billed for the assessment.
Hobart Occupational Medicine believes in transparency when it comes to billing and accounts. The reports for more complex assessments where a detailed report is required are usually dictated with transcription of the report outsourced. Fitness for Work Assessment Reports and Fitness for Work Certificates where only a short report or a simple statement about capacity to work is required, are usually provided directly by the assessing doctor without additional transcription fees. Our accounts show the actual times and hourly rates for the staff that have worked on the report, including the actual costs for transcription of the dictated report.
Our fees for Fitness for Work Assessments are reviewed every 12 months. Current fees apply as follows.

Consulting and report writing by our specialist occupational physicians is charged at $475.00 per hour (plus GST). This rate also applies for time involved in contact with treating practitioners, meetings, discussions and research related to the preparation of the report.
“Out of pocket” expenses, such as transcription of reports or laboratory testing will be charged at cost.
Non-attendance and cancellation fees will apply in some circumstances. We normally require at least 24 hours’ notice of cancellation of a Fitness for Work Assessment booked in advance (or notice on Friday for an appointment scheduled on Monday). Where no notice is provided and the assessment does not proceed due to non-attendance or late attendance, a charge of $235.00 (plus GST) will normally apply.
Terms of Business
Our normal business terms require payment of accounts within 15 days of issue of the invoice. A late payment fee of $40.00 will be applied where accounts remain unpaid beyond 30 days and an additional fee of 5% per month, if the account remains outstanding, will also apply.
