Neurosurgeon, Mr Andrew Hunn, AMA CEO, Mr Tony Steven and Occupational Physician, Dr Peter Sharman were invited to attend the September meeting of the WorkCover Board to present a submission about the AMA’s ideas for workers compensation reform.
The centrepiece of the submission were ideas about how ‘complex’ cases can be streamed into an alternate management pathway and putting in place better mechanisms to facilitate exit from the system for those patients adversely affected by a compensation environment. In addition, ideas were presented about how to improve standards of independent medical assessment and better mechanisms for dispute resolution. The overall objective is to improve ‘health outcomes’ for patients managed within the compensation system.
